Al Sud to shine bright in 2023 as fine dining restaurant celebrates retaining its Michelin star
The Algarve’s Al Sud restaurant, which gained its first Michelin star just seven months after opening in 2022, has retained the prestigious award for 2023, featuring in the newly launched Michelin Guide Spain and Portugal 2023.
Owned and operated by Kronos Homes, Al Sud at Palmares Ocean Living & Golf, the Algarve’s luxury oceanfront resort, celebrates the flavours of ‘al sud’ (‘the south’) under the watchful eye of Chef Louis Anjos, who also oversees the hotel and clubhouse restaurants at the resort.
Chef Anjos’ stewardship means that every diner at Palmares experiences the Algarve’s traditional flavours at their very best. The Michelin Guide describes the resort as a location to “de-stress and spoil yourself,” as Chef Anjos “conjures up delicate, creative cuisine that showcases the ingredients of the Algarve.”
It is this level of luxury that high-net-worth and ultra-high net worths are coming to expect when they look to Portugal for their holiday experiences and increasingly, an on-site Michelin star eatery is something that second home buyers are seeking as part of their purchase. It’s part of the appeal of a new kind of luxury resort, as showcased in Portugal by Palmares Ocean Living & Golf.
“We’re seeing a spike in interest from buyers looking for something ultra-luxurious. Buyers are looking for next-level resort living and features like on-site Michelin star restaurants are ticking all the right boxes.”

Properties at Palmares Ocean Living are being snapped up by buyers seeking homes that are a cut above. Set in a natural amphitheatre with unspoilt views across the gently lapping waters of the Alvor Estuary and Bay of Lagos, the resort delivers peace and serenity in abundance.
The luxurious dining and drinking options at Palmares are paired with exceptional golf facilities, courtesy of a 27-hole course designed by celebrated American architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. And, of course, the resort’s accommodation is simply superb. Golf-front and ocean-view villas are priced from €3.4 million. Each villa comes with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, spacious living areas and its own pool. The low construction density (just 5.7%), meanwhile, forges an exceptional harmony between the residential accommodation, the rolling greenery of the landscape and golf course and the ever-changing blues of the ocean.
“Luxury like this never goes out of style. The sense of escape and tranquillity at Palmares Ocean Living is something very special. Our owners can stroll along the sands of Meia Praia, dip their toes in the ocean, enjoy a round of golf or a swim in their pool, then settle in for an outstanding gastronomic experience as the perfect end to the perfect day. We’ve built luxury into every single detail.”
