Zbrodzice – a place where Polish wine is born
Among the hills of the Świętokrzyskie Province, where the earth smells of sunshine and herbs, and the mornings are still cool with dew, fruits ripen that give wine its unique flavour. Zbrodzice – a small town known as Polish Tuscany for good reason – has become a symbol of how Polish wine can combine nature, passion and culture. It is a place where every day begins with silence, the scent of ripening grapes and the sound of bees circling above the vineyard. There is no rush here – instead, there is a deep awareness that true wine is born of patience.
Although the modern vineyard in Zbrodzice is only two decades old, its roots go back almost nine hundred years. Already in the Middle Ages, the monasteries of Świętokrzyskie cultivated vines on the gentle slopes of this area. That was when a tradition was born which, thanks to the passion of new generations, is now regaining its place. Świętokrzyskie is an extraordinary region – its warm microclimate, limestone soils and sheltered valleys create conditions that are favourable for grape varieties that require the perfect balance of sun and water.
The modern history of the vineyard begins symbolically – on 30 April 2004, on the eve of Poland’s accession to the European Union. On that day, the first seedlings of two varieties were planted: Solaris and Regent. This gesture had something metaphorical about it – it was a sign of openness, faith in the potential of Polish wine and the conviction that Poland could stand shoulder to shoulder with countries with centuries-old wine-making traditions.
Solaris is a white variety, full of freshness and light. Its aroma is reminiscent of green apples, linden honey and cool mornings. It goes perfectly with delicate dishes – white fish, cheeses and summer salads. Regent, on the other hand, is a red counterpoint. Dense, deep, with notes of blackcurrant, cherry and dark chocolate. Its intensity makes it best enjoyed with meat and long conversations at the table. These two varieties, cultivated with care and respect for the land, have become the winery’s flagship and an example of how Polish wine is maturing today – ambitious, elegant and increasingly appreciated on the international stage.
A walk through the vineyard in Zbrodzice is like a lesson in mindfulness. The rows of vines form natural lines in the landscape, and each bush has its own story. The stone cellars smell of dampness, wood and promise. Oak barrels, arranged in the semi-darkness, conceal the ageing process, which is almost a ritual – quiet, long and full of emotion. Tastings take place in an intimate atmosphere, accompanied by conversation and music, without haste. Here, guests learn to understand wine, listen to its aroma and recognise the subtle differences between vintages.
It is this authenticity that makes wine tourism in Poland grow at such an impressive rate. More and more people are discovering that travelling does not have to mean long flights – a weekend in the Świętokrzyskie hills is enough to experience the same peace and sensuality that Italian vineyards offer. Polish winemaking is undergoing a change in mentality, with growing consumer awareness and a need for contact with nature.
The vineyard in Zbrodzice combines all the best aspects of a modern approach to wine: tradition, craftsmanship and technology. It is not only about production, but also a philosophy of life. Tastings, workshops and concerts are held here. On summer evenings, long tables are set up under the pergola, laden with fresh bread, cheese, olives and glasses of chilled Solaris. The light from the lamps hanging from the vines mingles with the sound of conversation and music. It is an experience that will remain in your memory for a long time.
For guests who want to stay overnight, there is an agritourism section – apartments overlooking the vineyard, where every morning smells of coffee and honey. It is places like these that are creating a new map of Świętokrzyskie vineyards, attracting connoisseurs, artists and people looking for meaning in simple gestures. The wine produced here is not a mass product – it is a story about a man who gets up at dawn every day to tend to the vines.
After twenty years of work, the vineyard in Zbrodzice is on the verge of a new stage. The owner, who created it out of love for nature and dreams of her own wine, has decided to hand it over to someone who will love this place just as much. This is an extraordinary opportunity – not only in terms of investment, but also in terms of life. Properties of this type are gaining value today not because of their location, but because of the emotions they convey. We wrote about this in the article ‘Why real estate is becoming a lifestyle statement’.
Zbrodzice is a symbol of how Polish wine has become part of a new culture – subtle, conscious and close to nature. For many, it is a discovery that in a country that until recently was not associated with wine, world-class wines are being produced. It is also a reminder that beauty does not always have to be imported – sometimes it is enough to look at your own hills and see their potential. Because wine, like architecture or music, can tell a story. In Zbrodzice, this story smells of earth, sun and people who believe that true luxury is time, peace and quality.
The vineyard is offered for sale by the real estate agency Vilea Property Boutique.
