My recollection of the last two winters is mostly staying indoors, the returning lockdowns have forced an unprecedented use of leisurewear. Observing this season’s fashion shows, the main fashion trends focus on coats, hoodies and jackets, so it’s time for the big return of outerwear.

Leather and wool, two clear trends for the autumn/winter 2021/2022 season that shine through when jackets and dresses are presented. The clothes are meant to emphasise the feminine silhouette.  Clear accents of gold can be seen as on the Burberry and Chanel catwalks, while Alberta Ferretti instead offers high-waisted trousers that can be worn with shirts in contrasting material. Take inspiration from Fendi’s classic jacket and Louis Vuitton’s two-tone hoodie.

What trends will dominate the autumn/winter season:

1. Preppy style

A college style adapted for an adult clientele, short school skirts are most often exchanged for pretty pleated midi skirts suitable for the office (Max Mara, Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini).

2. A reference to winter sports

A clear influence of white sports, mainly skiing, as in the Vivienne Westwood, Thom Browne, Miu Miu shows.

3. The return of knitwear

Jumpers with braids and other chunky patterns (Fendi, Altuzarra, Jil Sander).

4. Leather

We have already mentioned leather. Colours black, light and dark brown, purple, gold (Christian Dior, Hermès).

5. Glamour style

Do you like to shine in company? Long jumpers, dresses, warm woollen blouses decorated with all sorts of shiny materials will contrast with the cotton tracksuits worn out of necessity last season (Carolina Herrera, Erdem, Isabel Marant, Prada, Valentino, Markarian, Givenchy).
